Parishioners who visit and bring Holy Communion to nursing homes and hospital are performing the ministry of spiritual care. As a minister of care you are commissioned by your parish to bring the compassion and communion of the church to the sick and the homebound. You also have a commission to bear witness to the parish at large: to bring before the whole community the suffering of its members, the suffering of Christ. You become ”gift bearers” from parishioner to parishioner, distributing the gifts of the risen Spirit each according to need. You visit the sick, the grieving, the aged, the dying.
